Dear Learners,
In the previous blog, we have learned about Persistence of Eyes and Defects of Eye. Let me help you to recall few important points
1. The ability of the eye to retain the image of the object for 1/16th of a second after we have stopped looking at the object is called Persistence of Eye.
2. The abnormalities in the normal vision of the eye are called defects of vision or defects of eyes.
3. The most commonly observed defects of vision are myopia and hypermetropia.
Today, we will be learning about care of eyes and role of nutrition.

Care of Eyes
The sense of sight is the most important of our five senses. Eye is the most delicate organ in our body.
Suggestion to maintain our eyes in the healthy state are as follows:
(i) Protest eyes from extreme sunlight and glare of bright lights.
(ii) Protect eyes from the dust and husk.
(iii) While reading, keep the reading material at a distance of about 25-30 cm from eyes.
(iv) Raise your eyes from time to time while reading, watching TV etc.
(v) Do not watch television for long hours particularly in a completely dark room.
(vi) Do not read in dim light, or in moving bus or while lying down. This put strain on the eyes.
(vii) Do not rub your eyes.
(viii) Wash your eyes by splashing clean cold water whenever you feel eyes are strained or tired.
(ix) Protect your eyes from any damage/injury during playing running.
(x) If feel strain in your eyes, get eyesight checked up. Use spectacles, if required.

GOOD NUTRITIOUS FOOD ITEMS FOR EYES
Food items such as spinach, milk, butter, pumpkin, tomato, carrot, cabbage, and mango are rich source of vitamin A. Vitamin A is good for our eyes.

Deficiency of vitamin A leads to night blindness. A person suffering form night blindness can see during day but cannot see at night or dim light.
