Cell Structure and Functions Part 3

Good morning boys!
In the last class you learnt that-
-A cell has three main parts -cell membrane ( an additional cell wall in plant cells) cytoplasm and nucleus.
-Cell organelles are present in the cytoplasm.
-The nucleus is the control centre of the cell .
-Chromosomes present in the nucleus are hereditary vehicles.

Today, we all will be learning more about cell organelles present in the cytoplasm and their functions.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
By the end of the lesson, learner will be able to-

-name the cell organelles and state their functions.
-distinguish between plant and animal cells.
-name the three kinds of plastids and state their functions.

Important Instructions:
1. Write ups highlighted in RED should be copied in the science note book.
2. Diagrams should be drawn and well labelled.
3. Youtube links are provided for better understanding.

The different cell organelles and their functions are -

1. MITOCHONDRIA ( Power house of the cell )- produces energy from the food during respiration.
2. ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM- helps to transport substances in the cell.
3. RIBOSOMES-  help in protein synthesis.

4. GOLGI BODIES - synthesise ,store and secrete many substances.
5. VACUOLES- are sac like structures  that store soluble food, wastes and secretions of the cell dissolved in water as cell sap.

6. LYSOSOMES ( suicidal bags ) - help in cellular digestion.( only in animal cells)
7. CENTROSOMES - play a role in the reproduction of cells ( only in animal cells )
8. PLASTIDS - are only present in plant cells.

THERE ARE THREE TYPES OF PLASTIDS IN PLANTS-

(i) Chloroplast- These are green due to presence of chlorophyll. These help in synthesis of food by the process of photosynthesis.

(ii) Chromoplasts- These are coloured (e.g. red, yellow, blue) plastids. These are responsible for the colour of flowers (eg. rose, marigold, petunia), fruits (eg. carrot, beet root, tomatoes) and leaves (eg. carotan).

(iii) Leucoplasts- These are colourless plastids. Leucoplasts help in the storage of food.

  28. Sir,
The HW you have given us is to be done in the book itself.
But I think you are forgetting the fact that many of us (majority of students in 8E) don't even have our books yet. So please tell us a way by which we can complete our HW. You can either send pdf of the books as we can't find it on google.
    thanks (aaryan saini 8E)

    1. I have send you the photo(images) of the book for easy reference. I can understand the situation that you all must be facing right now. The easy way out can be you do the work in your respective science copy. You all can refer to your book-reader as and when required.
